Rock-a-Bye is doing a lot for the region. The many steps that the management is taking in various spheres are as follows:
Energy Conservation
- All incandescent light bulbs are being replaced with low energy bulbs.
Protect Indigenous Vegetation
- No remaining indigenous bush will be cleared for agriculture.
- Alien plant removal is ongoing.
- Indigenous plants are used in the gardens
Wildlife Conservation
- Chemicals that have the least effect on wildlife are preferred.
- Anti poaching patrols are being done on an ad hoc basis.
- No wild animal is destroyed on the property.
- Poaching of fish in the river is reported and acted upon.
- The hotel is a member of the local Conservancy.
Responsible Agricultural Practices
- Contours are in place where necessary to prevent soil erosion.
- Fertiliser application is done according to leaf and soil analysis, so that excess fertiliser does not need to be applied.
General
- The labour intensive nature of the farming operation provides employment for many people.
